Even prebuilt gaming desktops might have flaws, but the Omen 45L is virtually always an improvement over its predecessor. The tool-less chassis makes it even simpler to get inside, and the performance, despite being occasionally constrained by memory speed, is deserving of the technology inside. It boasts a novel cooling design that actually improves thermals.
The top gaming desktop on the market is no longer the HP Omen 30L. Even with the few problems of the Omen 45L, HP has outdone itself, and if you don't want to, or most likely can't, construct a gaming rig right now, this is the PC you should buy.
Processor | Intel Core i9-12900K |
Graphics | Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 |
Memory | 64GB HyperX DDR4-3733 |
Motherboard | HP 8917 Micro ATX Z690 |
Storage | 2x 2TB WD_Black PCIe Gen4 |
Power supply | Cooler Master 800W 80 Plus Gold |
Ports | 4x USB 3.2, 4x USB 2.0, 2x USB-C |
Connectivity | 1x Gigabit Ethernet |
OS | Windows 10 Home 64-bit (can be upgraded to windows 11) |
Connectivity is the Omen 45L's weakest point. The Omen 30L shines out even more on this larger design because the Micro ATX motherboard is constrained to the same amount of ports. You should still have enough ports for everything, but if you have a lot of dongles or other USB peripherals, you'll need to get a USB hub.
1440p gaming performance
For gaming on a 2560 x 1440 screen, the RTX 3070 Ti is a very good card. It offers great frame rates without using a lot of power and is cheap. If you're not using a 4K monitor, moving to a 3080 or 3090 adds a lot of extra cost for relatively little benefit. Omen 45L's 3070Ti and Aftershock UltraCore are all tied, but Aftershock's 5800X3D has the lead. Weird Cyberpunk 2077 aside, the Omen 45L delivers perfectly smooth gameplay above 60 FPS on max settings for the most part. Add in a high-quality G-Sync or Adaptive-Sync monitor and you can enjoy fairly smooth gameplay.
4K gaming performance
4K gaming performance 4K makes it a little harder, but the 60 FPS mark is within reach for many games. Demanding games like Metro run at over 55 FPS when he lowers the settings one notch, cracking 60 FPS. Is Cyberpunk 2077 the crisis of the generation or just a badly coded bastard? Even next-gen flagship graphics cards have a hard time running with all options enabled. Luckily, dialing back into the visual fidelity settings doesn`t hurt too much. Overall, the Omen 45L matches what you'd expect from a 3070 Ti system. It runs games smoothly at 1080p and 1440p resolutions and offers his 4K performance which is acceptable. You can get faster cards for the Omen 45L, but their prices have skyrocketed and with the launch of the next-generation flagship graphics cards approaching, it makes no sense to buy them.

Competent 1440p gaming performance
Easy to upgrade
Its bulk may not suit all desks
Could use more ports
The Omen 45L takes a fantastic design and makes it even better. This might not be anything more than a bigger Omen desktop with more room for fans. Thermals and cable management saw real advancements thanks to HP. There are several drawbacks; for example, I would have preferred additional connectivity, and DDR4 can sometimes render the CPU ineffective. Nevertheless, with all that the Omen 45L has to offer, it is difficult to stick with those criteria. Overall, it delivers excellent performance, and future updates are simple thanks to the tool-free architecture.
